[Never shall we therefore touch]

Our brief histories open
to the infamy of galleons
that savaged our shores
The liege of conquistadores
sealing the astrology of our eyes;
Tribal we both were once
Beholden to common memory of singular desires.
fall or die—
Between us
the cycle of ruins that infests our speech:
on the promontory, surveying
the field of poppies blooming under your feet
& I
at the rock’s edge where the wings of sons I pantomime
In the distance
a trail of gunpowder melts with stars
& You
quickly vanish in the shower of light

[Never shall we therefore touch]
