2/Rosary of Summer

This ship is the solid argument
against the violent history of seas:
Sweet Faith flowing in the geometry of craft
& water

Taking stock of life’s integral uncertainties:
Journeys begun & ended
Crippled monotone about the air
Sparkle of fish, towering plateaux
White cathedrals on peripheral shores:
All verily elements known
that chant perpetual mystery, iron bones:

Truly this ancient parable:
signs & symbols for all travellers
who never twice return
like rivers twice crossed
towns twice burned
galleons twice sunk

& stars

celestial guides
to terrestial destination—

O Incas!  O Mayans!
O Space of Poetry & Religion!

(Words, alas, only make for proximate wisdom!)
