Continuity (For Mark)

Your father never left you, really
He’s among friends sipping tea & sympathy
in crowded & desolate cafes
In workplaces, even rooms solitary
Soft, soft beds you leave hastily
after a long, long night of intimacy –
More so on days when your heart trips
over love’s old & recurrent fallacy.
Your father never left you, really.
