Shades

(Metaphysical)

I

Of course, the old times:
Where are those lovers now?
Who’s she sleeping with?
Did he abscond with the money?
Did she have a face-lift?
Questions. Questions. Questions.
As if the news is always new.
What we know then of how things would be
turns pathetically true, the same
as any layman’s prophecy.
The world rotates on the same old axis:
As if the news is always new.

(Dialectical)

II

“We cannot account for everything, ”
he thinks the contrary.
Summer then, summer now
may have the same old sun
but the heat wave ripples
from a dying one.
Things are not all alike.
We barely see the shades of difference.
You love one deeper than the other.
